This morning I’m working on an aria for the hero, who rhapsodizes about Monkey Island, an idyll on the Thames river, where he wandered with his lover. For that purpose, I had to google british/heron/image and came up with a gorgeous painting by James Tissot. It somehow seemed appropriate that Tissot himself was a political refugee who came to England after the Franco-Prussian war in 1871, and had to change his style of painting to a more Japanese style for the British market. Look at that gorgeous heron. Monkey Island, here I come.621
